Why is 6063 T5 aluminum the most suitable material for use in furniture?
Excellent extrusion performance, capable of extruding profiles with complex cross-sections, suitable for fine structures such as doors, windows, curtain walls and furniture frames.
After anodizing, the surface is smooth and uniform in color, and can present various textures such as silver, champagne and black, with strong decorative properties.
Low density (about 2.7g/cm³) and moderate strength, combining light weight and practicality, widely used in construction, home furnishing and industrial frame fields.
- 2.Core Differences Between 6063 Aluminum Alloy and Other Common GradesThe main aluminum alloy grades with similar application scenarios to 6063 on the market are 6061, 5052 and 7075. The core differences are reflected in composition, performance and application.
Aluminum Alloy Grade Alloy System Core Characteristics Key Differences from 6063 Typical Applications 6063 Al-Mg-Si Excellent extrusion performance, good anodizing effect, strong corrosion resistance, moderate strength Better formability than 6061, lower strength than 6061 Architectural profiles (doors, windows, curtain walls), furniture frames, decorative parts 6061 Al-Mg-Si Higher strength, excellent comprehensive mechanical properties, heat-treatable strengthened About 30% higher strength than 6063, but higher extrusion difficulty and slightly inferior oxidation effect Aviation parts, marine components, industrial brackets, mechanical parts 5052 Al-Mg Non-heat-treatable strengthened, excellent corrosion resistance (especially seawater resistance) No aging strengthening effect, lower strength than 6063, better welding performance Oil tanks, pipelines, ship hulls, corrosion-resistant stamping parts 7075 Al-Zn-Mg-Cu Ultra-high strength (aviation-grade hard aluminum) Far higher strength than 6063, but poor corrosion resistance and extremely high extrusion difficulty Aerospace components, high-end sports equipment, military parts - 3.Characteristics of 6063-T5T5 is a heat treatment state of 6063 aluminum alloy, whose full name is "rapid cooling after high-temperature forming + artificial aging". It is the most commonly used processing technology in profile production, with the following core characteristics:Compared with the T6 state (solution treatment + artificial aging) of the same grade, 6063-T5 has slightly lower strength, but shorter production cycle and lower cost, which can fully meet the needs of most civil profiles and is the mainstream choice of aluminum profile factories.
Simple process and controllable cost
After extrusion, the profile is directly water-cooled (using extrusion waste heat) without additional solution treatment, and then the strength is improved through low-temperature artificial aging (about 170-190℃, holding for 4-6 hours). The production efficiency is high, suitable for large-scale mass production.
Balanced strength and processability
After aging, the tensile strength can reach 140-180MPa, and the yield strength is about 110-150MPa, meeting the load-bearing requirements of architectural and home furnishing profiles; at the same time, it retains good toughness and is not easy to brittle fracture.
Excellent surface quality
Rapid cooling can reduce profile deformation and grain coarsening. Combined with subsequent processes such as anodizing and powder coating, the surface is smooth and flawless with strong decorative properties.
Stable corrosion resistance
The structure of 6063 alloy in T5 state is uniform, not easy to rust in humid and conventional industrial environments, suitable for indoor and outdoor applications.
